The Golf Cover Comic Books referenced on this page are ones that you will need to make your own choice of whether to add them to your collection or not. There is very little change in some of these covers, none of which changes the "golf" reference in any way. There are probably many of these in existence. So, you need to decide if you want to spend anywhere from $2.00 to $??? for a small cover variation.
In the comic book world, we can find "variant" copies of certain comic
books. There are several examples of these with golf cover comic
books. So, what is a variant comic book and where can I find more
information about variants. The best place to find complete information
is in the 40th edition of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide,
starting on page 1010. The article, in the guide, was written by
Jon Martin McClure. Information that you will find on this page is
a summary of what can be found in the Guide.
A simple definition of a "variant" is (1) any non-standard edition
created for distribution with a unique purpose or (2) anything reprinted
for distribution under the same title with some changes to the cover and/or
contents. In the Guide article, Mr. McClure lists 15 categories of
variants with several having sub-types for a total of 36 types of variants.
Golf Cover Comic books fit into several of these categories:
Type 1 Variants
are those that have a different cover price.
Type 3b Variants
are those that promote a business partner and are usually given away as
promotionals or complimentary copies.
Type 6 Variants
have a different bar code type logo for Direct Market Distribution or Newsstand
Editions.
Type 6a Variants
with the US price, the UK price and the Canandian price or a combination
of these prices.
Type 7 Variants
are published at same time, by the same publishing house, but with a different
logo (Gold Key/Whitman).
I have shown some of these on the Examples Pages, such as the Gold Key
and Whitman variants (Type 7). Also the smaller Mickey Mouse Magazines
giveaway by various dairies are shown (Type 3b). On this page, I
list all Golf Cover Variants that I know about and will show examples.
